hi, i just received an old 40s servicar tranny 3 spd w/ reverse. it seems to shift well, clutch works, but when i spin it i can hear the ratchet clicking. i do not have a service manual so i have not taken it apart yet. anyone have ideas? i will wait for service manual before disassembling it because i have never worked on a 45 tranny before. thanks

Is the kicker shaft rotated to the CORRECT position? The tripper bolts hold the ratchet out of engagement, but they only are spaced correctly in a small range of travel. If you do not have a kicker arm on it, and one with the correct stop, the ratchet can make contact with the gear and click!

I suspect that the kicker ratchet is not disengaging all the way and usually this is caused by the 2 'tripper' bolts being worn. Part number 33456-26
