I'm having problems with my kick starter engaging on my '33 VLE. I think the problem is a wrong starter spring, 2152-31. Does anyone have the dimensions of one?

Dear Lippy, it is 1 9/16" in diameter and 13/16" high with three turns of wire. I've just made a batch of new ones because it is getting hard to find good used ones. If you built the box from mixed parts there can be other problems. First don't forget the constant mesh starter is timed, so the rearward tooth of the kicker quadrant gear needs to fit between the two marked teeth of the starter clutch gear. The starter gear bushing needs to be not so loose that the gear wobbles and does not engage, nor so tight that the starter gear jams down and won't return. Those starter cover ramps are important too. Sometimes the cover is close enough to the gearbox that the ramps don't fully disengage the starter gear, and the kicker slips. A second starter cover gasket can sometimes cure this. By the way, nice bike!
