Michigan Trip

Thought I would share some pictures of a trip I took in June. I was fortunate enough to take some time off work and ride through MI with a long time friend. He trailered his dual sport BMW up to my place in OH from his home state of FL to save his vacation time. It turned out to be a 7 day trip, 2048 miles, mostly staying in Mom & Pop places and no interstates. Bike compatibility was a small issue, me old and slow with small gas tanks and him new and powerful with something like 6 gals of fuel. One time in the UP (upper peninsula) we had to use his side cans to keep me going. The UP can be desolate. Right before I left I put new Dunlop 402's on my Panhead. I know most are not a fan of new tires on an old bike, but they sure made my trip enjoyable. I'm a machinist not a professional photographer, so I hope the photos are somewhat enjoyable. Day 1, OH to Holland, MI with a stop in Lagrange IN for lunch.

Thanks for posting. Did you eat any of those pasties? I remember eating them a long time ago up there. Very similar country to around here in Downeast Maine

A Portable Pie With History Baked In. Miners favored the pasty due to its portable nature — a small meat pie that could easily be carried into the mines for 12-hour workdays.

Lot of riders that aren't into older motorcycles don't realize that the current Adventure bikes (aka dual sport) are simply a modern refinement of bikes used for long distance travel, Panheads and bikes way before were going on great long distance adventures like yours with camping gear, etc. ... just not as comfortable!
