  • Late model tubs

    I was told in an older post that I could run a 36 and up sidecar, with minor changes, on my brothers 69FLH. Can the 88-05 sidecars also be used on his bike? The parts book shows same numbers for most of the frame.

    No not with out some modifications there are some changes to the sidecar frames in those years due to changes in areas where it would mount to the newer bike frames mainly the lower rear mount.

    Your brothers 69 should mount on the rear swingarm,to the lower front of the frame (roughly where the regulator is mounted on the newer ones)
    and just under the gas tanks on the front

        I hate to say this but I sold a 69 sidecar about 6 years ago to a guy in Cleveland.
        Depending on how much you want to spend,You may want to try Bill Morris he has had a frame that would work on e-bay for $550. he also has repop fenders and I would think some if not most or all of the parts to hook it to the 69flh.
        Then see Meril Wolfe at L&W Body for the body and interior....or watch e-bay there have been a couple that went fairly reasonable in the $2800 to $3000 range

          The main problem with running a 1957 or earlier sidecar is brakes. In 1958 sidecars got hydraulic brakes to match the swing arm bike. The earlier machines were mechanical brakes. Any older H-D sidecar back to 1958 will bolt on to your bike with the correct mounts. V-Twin has reproduction mounts.

            And with the modification of changing the brake backing plate, you can put hydraulic brakes on a pre-58 H-D sidecar, and the pivoting "rubber biscuit" rear mount will mount a sidecar intended for a 36-57 rigid frame on 1960s swingarm. But the 1988-05 sidecar and frame mounting is considerably different.

              I've seen that frame and another one on E-Bay, but Bill seems to have a communication problem. No returned answers on E-Bay and three attempts at calling with no success.If I was closer I'd ride over an see if he was home, but would be more frustrating to get there for nothing Does anyone reproduce the fiberglass body that started in 69? The liberty looks nice but would be sweeter with a steel body.

                  Thanks for the heads up Clyde, be calling tomorrow It says 69, The steel bodies ended in 68 right? I do notice the cutouts on the bottom sides of the tub don't align right on the frame is this right?

                    I believe the steel bodies ended in mid '67, with late '67 being the "New" fiberglass body. And the cutouts are correct, as the springs and shackles move, the cutout comes down over the body mount.

                      Yes the steel bodys ended in 1967 something that I caught in the pictures is the body may be just setting on the frame as it is positioned to far to the back and not lined up to the frame cross member,also it looks like the spare tire mount is off or missing I saw bolts on the sides of the body where it would be located.

                        I thank you for the lead, but just got off the phone. He sold it yesterday, said it was on line for a month and he got one call yesterday and gone The story of my life oh well still looking any other leads, will be promptly called.
