  • Servicar Wheel Hub Repair

Has anyone tried to repair/ replace the threaded part (the raised portion used to remove the hub from the tapered axle using a puller) of a hub? It appears to be brazed on. I have a couple early stepped hubs that need repaired. Does anyone know if this is brazed on? It appears to be put in place after the outer flange was assembled, not sure? It would be difficult to get a threading tool up to the shoulder, (would also need an under-cut area to start in), pick up the thread and feed back out re-chasing the thread. I would like to remove, remake, and reattach if possible. It's a non-functioning part used just for removal I believe. Any thoughts, suggestions or experience with this problem? The thread on this hub shown is out of round and smashed, probably from trying to be removed without the puller. The other hubs I have are cross threaded.

Also, how does 83960-37 hub cap attach to the hub? Where do the clips clip on? I have 2 caps and they both appear the same, meaning I don't think the clips have been altered but who knows. Does the underside of this cap look correct?

    Thanks.

I believe it is one piece with the flanges brazed onto the hub center portion. And that style hubcap clips into the lug bolt holes, those clips are bent. Here is one on a package truck wheel.

One piece makes sense, just was hoping for a simple fix. Wishful thinking. Since the threads will never be correct again, I might just put an undercut at the thread base then make a two piece puller and collar like HD 96015-56 sprocket bearing puller. Nonfunctioning, just used to remove the hub.

As far as the spring tabs on the hub cap, it is better to bend them cold, correct? Heat would move them easier without snapping but I could possibly soften the spring steel beyond use, correct?
