  • 38 and up sidecar recoil strap

Just finished this recoil strap. Cut to length, punch in holes and good to go.

Thanks micmac. I needed some straps for my package truck, so i had to make everything from scratch. Got asked for sidecar straps, so here i am. Cheers

I never ever encountered an intact real one, Mick,..

So please let me ask: How do they work?

Friction of the strap upon the bottom frame member?

          Thanks in advance,

            Tom,
The spring end bolts up to the front body support. the strap loops under the frame and clamps back up underneath the body. Dampens out the oscillations, apparently. Typical of the factory, a lot of different arrangements over the years. Up until about 1935, they had a rear assembly as well. I think they stopped using them when suspension was introduced to the sidecar wheel. Servicars had a similar setup on their boxes. Picture is of a package truck setup i made a while ago.

This is an NOS one, also the double type for package truck front.

                Rubone,
was the double strap only used on the later package trucks?
                Cheers

Where did you source the check strap material?

I think it was Amazon or eBay. Took a while to get the right color and weave. Could only get 1/8: thick strap so had two thicknesses sewn together.
