What year are you doing? All pre-1917's weren't the same shade of grey.

Silent Gray Fellow - Pin Stripe for a '12 ?

            Got a tip -- thanks!

I guess I'll use the Harley Davidson Grey (1910 to 1916) rather than the
Renault Grey (1906 to 1909) from John Pierce.

Any tips on the pin stripes for a '12?

            Thanks again,

According to my H.D. paint& color ref. manual the 1910-16 factory color was Grey with dark bluestripes edged in red with gold center stripe. Special Order same as 1907-09 models. Renault Grey with Carmine stripes. Special Order Piano Black, Aluminum Bronze, Gold Bronze, and Dark Grey. Bar & Shield Emblem first appeared in 1910. Brian.

Don't believe everything you read, Brian! 1907-1910 didn't have any dark grey or blue stipes, only thin red ones. The Bar/shield emblem wasn't used until 1911. The dark blue/grey striping on 1911 toolboxes was not edged with the red striping, nor did the toolbox have a center gold stripe. The tanks did, however. There is so much misinformation that keeps getting perpetuateted by authors that simply copy what someone else wrote. The best source is orig photos, or known orig paint bikes.

Here's an original paint '12. It's shine is long gone but ain't it a beauty??? Even though somebody slapped the wrong seat on it...

After two (2) days of forum "log in" difficulties, I'm finally able to post a couple of photos of my original paint (with a little rust) 1912 H-D, model X8. If you would like any additional photos, please let me know. Hope this helps.
