Just watched a nice light go on E bay. I was wondering - all the pictures that I have found show motorcycle head lights opening from the side, I have not seen any that open from the bottom. Are those for cars? or did they come both ways? I might of bid on the light, but like I said - all my books show motorcycle head lights open from the side, is it a big deal? not sure, but thought I would ask what you guys thought.
I have a bit of teens Indian that I would like to put a gas head light on, thats why the interest, thanks Tom.

I have a BIG literature collection . Lots of early photos indicate that many bikes were fitted with automotive headlights. If you have ever tried to navigate down the road at night with an acetylene lamp you will see why. If you have a period unrestored bike I would say go for it with something larger just keep the mounting brackets as elegant and period looking as possible. Many small companies also offered electric lights before the big companies did.
