1914 Harley engine numbers

I have been offered a 1914 Harley single engine, no 5650G, magneto model and chain drive.

The Comp Dist catalogue mentions late 13/ early 14 frames - does anyone now how to age an engine number such as this? Are the frames actually different?

My book says that your number could be either a 1914 single cylinder chain drive with a single speed hub or with a two speed hub. They didn't do a battery model in 1914. As to whether it is early or late 1914, I wouldn't know.

They made 16,427 machines in that year. 2034 were singles with single speed hubs. 877 were singles with 2-speed hubs.

I, too, have a 14 single, chain drive. I will have to look to see what the vin is. I couldn't tell you if the frame is early, late, or otherwise!

I thought that the late-13 frames were the same as all the 14 frames, but I would call Lonnie at Competition. He should be able to help you.
