Early Schebler carb ID

I’ve been going through some of my fathers parts and found this early Schebler carb and manifold . The only markings I can see are the SCHEBLER on one side and PAT APLD FOR on the other. It looks like it’s for a twin, there is no flange on the manifold, the carb screws on. There are more then 5 pictures so I’ll continue in the next post…

Any clues out there about what this is off of?

The manifold is the clue, Joe!

Please measure and count the threads, and this chart might narrow things down.

The nuts look Excelsior.

That carb and manifold are correct for a 1915-17 Excelsior twin. In 1918, X went to the 3 bolt flange on the manifold.

Meanwhile, what sort of seal did you find between the carb and manifold spigot nut? Thanks,...

FLF, Is there a casting number on the stem of the main body and if there is what is it ?

I see a 7 on the throttle lever

And an R on the throttle plate.

it looks like it might have had a repair

but I don’t see any kind of crack on the inside so I don’t know what that’s about

As far as the carb manifold connection I didn’t find any gasket, but there looks like some kind of substance or sealer on the threads.

And for sharing it with the world, as I have passed it on many times.

The variety of these things is endless. Without the later stampings, we might imagine the differences in carbs might be something like the airvalve spring.

The sealing substance might be white lead.

The throttle cam '7' appears on this '12 Ex Scheb as well,

But I really do not know its significance, nor why there's a nut (instead of an airbend?) on the bottom, but it must have come in with it.

I have encountered the R on throttlediscs as well, but I did not record them. It is hard to imagine it means 'rear' when the disc only goes in one way.

All, Please don't take my list as a complete round up of screw on Schebler carbs as all I did at the time was search all the Schebler lists I have and put all the screw on ones in one place so it was easier to research them.
It is quite likely I missed some that had been deleted or superceeded by later lists and if anyone has any to add I would be very pleased to hear from them.

I got it from my late friend Jules, it’s from John Steele Indian dealer from right next to me in Paterson NJ, it’s from 1921, and included in it is tables for all the Schebler “H” carbs….

I looked thru the table and there is just one “H” carb listed with a thread on manifold, 1 3/16 - 20 right hand thread….
