  • 1913 excelsior timing

    Hi all!
    I was after a little push in the right direction with the valve timing on my v twin excelsior, I'm a bit of a newbie so any advice would be most appreciated, as I no these old things have there special ways and thought I would ask and set it right.

    I forgot to mention that the reason I asked is when I was timing it up the timing mark on the crank gear wasn't at 12 o'clock but more like 11 o'clock. So the piston was at tdc but but the timing Mark is not at 12 o'clock to mesh with the cam gear untill I go just past tdc then they line up. Is this normal or not?

      Most engines have timing marks related to some certain number of crankshaft degrees and do not have anything to do with TDC or BDC. Line timing marks to each other and ignore the crank position as long as the pinion gear is a splined or keyed fit.
