The oil pump on the Miami hasn't work correctly for a while so after working on the motor I pulled the pump and dis-assembled. The pump is supposed to pull oil in with the up pull and then push oil up a tube into the sight glass through a spring loaded check disc on the spring return down position. The pump seems to function properly mechanically but doesn't deliver the oil that I think it should.
The pump has four intake holes in the bottom that had some sort of material on the inside of the pump tube (see pic 3), I can't make out what the material is made of, it seems to be some sort of rubberized leather? I'm not sure if the material is for filtering or to act like a flap to block the oil from going back in the tank and therefore push more oil into the sight glass?
So my questions are: what is the purpose of the material and what was it made of?
I can take some pictures of it apart if it will help, thanks.
