  • Thor ID help 13 or 14 ?

    Gentlemen,

New to the forum but not to restorations of cars and MC engines. I just recently bought a thor engine - weird thing is the number 14 on the case seems like it was over restamped 14- U-1725 - but the carburetor is stamped 13 - U - 1725.

Does anyone know if they restamed leftover engines with the following year? I could be totally wrong in assuming this first serial number is the year anyway.

    see the pics below

    Thanks Guys

I think the 1914 prefix means it was in a 1914 bike. I cant be sure, but I guess it is a 1914 engine and a 1913 carby. I don't think there is too much difference I the U model between 1913 and 1914. Hopefully a real knowledgeable person will comment.

I had a Model U and found that the frame, carburetor, and engine were serialized and should all be the same number. This looks like a sloppy upgrade of a 1913 unit. Anyone have production figures for Thor Model U? Thanks, Paul
