Can anyone tell me how to remove the throttle and advance controls on a 1914 Harley twin? I removed the plug on the end of the handlebar but when twisting the throttle control off the handlebar it stops about 1/4 of the way off like there is a screw or pin holding it on but I can't see anything. It has original grips so I'll destroy them trying to remove them to look under the grip for a pin. I need to re-attach the advance cable that has come loose. Is it possible to re-connect it without removing the grip and control? I'm not sure how the cable attaches to the control. Thanks.

You don't have to look under the original rubber grip.
The front part of the throttle control has a sleeve on it, there is a screw that wholes the sleeve on. After you take the sleeve off you will see the pin that goes into the plunger. Unlike the later ones you have to unscrew the pin to take the grip off. After you take the grip off you can get to the plunger to replace the cable.
I will take some pictures tomorrow for you.

Here are some pictures of the early grips. You push the button down and slide the sleeve off. Then you can get to the pin. They don't come out easy most of the time. You can't use heat because it is all soldered together.IMG_7575.jpgIMG_7573.jpgIMG_7574.jpg
