  • Thor hub with clutch and brake

I'm trying to learn more about the Thor hub used on the HD belt drive models including 13. I got some external pix at the HD museum, and have just the 1 cross section drawing in the riders book, and a few parts pix in the parts book. Is there a more detailed exploded view of the whole thing? I'm not even sure yet what I am looking for, exactly. Is there any other reference material available? THX

Here is one short bit of history: http://209.204.252.20/thorhistory.htm
Harley had a two-speed rear hub but I think it was later, and for a chain drive.
You could also do a Google Patent search for Thor, but nothing showed for two-speed hubs; http://tinyurl.com/aqgdonn

Dan, I have taken these hubs apart many times. I'll email you a photo that I took of the parts in the order that they come apart. Mike Lange reproduces this hub perfectly, so if you need some pieces, I am sure he could help you.

1913 was the last year Thor hubs were used in HD's. Harley built their own 1914 and later, including the 2-spd hub which was used in 1914-1915.
