1978 Hondamatic

Hi,

My son (who's a pretty good Japanese bike mechanic) was just given a 1978 750 Hondamatic with a sidecar. Normally he wouldn't be interested in this sort of thing but this one has some special meaning in the family. Although many of the parts are pretty much just like those on any other bike there's a bunch of "strange" item as well. Does anyone know where a person can download a free or inexpensive copy of a service manual for this thing?

I guess I better check my profile. My zip code is 61884 which puts me smack in the middle of the sorry state of Illinois. The bike appears to be a dark burgandy color although it's badly faded.

Wow what a cowinkadink, I just bought a '78 Hondamatic at an auction Sunday and got it running yesterday, bought it for the grandkids to learn, also need a manual. What's up Steve? Probably won't make Wauseon this year.

Nice to hear from you. I just retired today so I'll have lots of time to work on the bikes. I was hoping to see you at Wauseon this year. It's the VL tribute meet so I'll probably drag mind up there and it would be nice to see yours again.

On the other hand a positive aspect of your absence is that I might have a chance to win a raffle for a change.

So it appears you purchased the little sister of Eli's 750 Hondamatic. Once again the Slaminko's come out on top in the "size matters" competition! Don't you ever get tired of losing? Anyway can you supply a link for a manual for that bike?

On a different subject Jake Walters was involved in a MC accident in Florida earlier this year. A U Haul van pulled out in front of him and he hit it broadside. I don't know the full extent of his injuries but it think he's sustained a broken wrist, other broken bones and a bunch of soft tissue injuries. He was riding one of his late model Harleys and it was totaled.

No, after 50 years I'm used to losing.....except when I'm at Wauseon of course. Sorry to hear about Jake, I'm going to OH in a couple weeks to ride a BMW home, maybe I'll stop by to see him.

What kind of BMW are you getting? If it's an old air head and if it still has the original seat you better be prepared to get a severe case of butt hurt! I rode my 1976 R75 on a 120 mile ride and I've never been more uncomfortable as I was the last 30 miles or so.

Ya I know, I got a '72 R60 toaster that used to kill me before I got a corbin gentry bucket seat, real nice to ride now, new one is an '82 R65 with some kind of after market seat, shouldn't be too bad it's only about 600 miles home.
