I've never found a frame sticker with a build date, but then I've never really looked. However, the numerical sequence puts it in the first 2500 for the 1979 model year, so yeah, 35 years already.cheesy

I put a bunch of miles on one of those great bikes and later bought a 1-year-only '83 650. Wish I'd kept them all.

The only thing I can find not to like about it is the cam chain/tensioner design. I've upgraded to the latest and greatest circa 1983 timing set. So, if I keep an eye on it, stay on the adjustments, and keep the oil changed, it should all be good. I've installed a new, not NOS, user serviceable CDI. Also replaced the failure prone fan-grenade with an electric one.
It will never be a points bike, but I like it.

My CX 500... since sold. But it was a hoot! JZR morgan replica.
Friend of mine in Columbus, OH had a Silverwing back in the early 1990's. He put about 200K on it... and still sold it for enough to put a down payment on a used BMW. Great machines and a terrific way to enjoy the antique hobby.
Cheers and congrats on the 'anniversary.'

Sirhr-Beautiful. I hope to make 200K with mine, but hard to do with an 8 month riding season.
Rich-That's my idea of points. Because I crashed and burned on my bicycle back in June, boogering up my knee in the process, I spent summer and fall on the CX and racked up over 4000 miles. Prior to me getting the bike, I don't think it saw more than 600 a year.cheesy

1 January, 2014. It's time. Here we go.
Coming home. September 2011
Miles on the clock. I don't doubt it's accurate, wear is minimal. Most of the deterioration, except for the cafe attempt, was age and exposure.
The first issue, a SLIGHT leak in the tank. The cut out area was tissue paper thin.
Why doesn't the front brake work? Should have seen the master cylinder.
Next step was the carbs, but no pics. They were nasty enough to require the purchase of an ultrasonic cleaner. Also about the time work reared it's ugly head and the project was put on hold for almost six months.cheesy
