Subject: [JTAN] B on a pole
While in the shop taking a rest, my mind began to wander back to a
summer day, a Sunday I think, about 1967. I was on shore duty at the
Naval Reserve Station in St. Joseph, Missouri. My friend Ken Sharp,
who
was also my rider, and I were returning from St. Louis, Missouri where
we had laid down some pretty good numbers at the drag strip that day.
We had been campaigning my 93 cubic inch magnesium frame nitro burning
Vincent.
We were taking the scenic route back to St. Joe, and stopped in a
little town whose name now escapes me. While filling the petrol tank
in the Ranchero, I looked down the street and saw a Vincent on top of a
20 foot pole in front of a British bike shop. Over the years I've seen
many motorcycles on poles in front of shops, but this was the only time
that I ever saw a Vincent being displayed as a business sign.
I went to the shop to inquire if the owner would entertain selling
the Vincent. As I said, it was a Sunday so the shop was closed. I
took
down all the necessary information to write him a letter. Well the
information got misplaced and I soon received an invitation from Uncle
Sam to visit the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. That being the case I was
never able to follow up on the B Rapide on a pole.
Anyone out there know the whereabouts of this B? I'd bet my next
pension check that it's not languishing on top of that pole in that
backwoods town in Missouri anymore.
