  • help with 1975 elect. start Norton

The Norton manuel makes it sound like the starter sprag bearing slips out of the primary drive gear easily to access the puller bolt holes. It is not happening so far.
I've never seen this model before and any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks, Kerry

In case you're still having problems ... yes, the sprag does pull out of the engine sprocket, once you remove the gear that slips into the ID of the sprag. If you can't pull it out, it may be fragged and jammed into the recess. Since it would be junk anyway, you may as well use a screwdriver to cave the cage inward, and then pull it out.

Gregg, thanks. It did come out as the book said, only needed a little extra persuasion. Out of 6 or 7 shops I contacted around the country only one had any knowledge about the elect. start Norton.
