How to verify E3lm gen. field coil polarity.

Hello all, I have an E3lm generator that I need to verify it's polarity. If I need one for a clockwise rotation from the driven end, what direction should it turn when 6v is applied to the external leads?

Is the generator out of the bike? It should be just a matter of turning it by hand to see what direction it's supposed to turn. If you hook up the leads and it turns opposite to your findings then ya got 'em backwards. Does that make sense?

Yes thanks, That answers my question very well. The generator is off the bike, and I determined proper rotation by feeling the drive gear while slightly turning the engine with the kick lever. Last person that assembled this generator had it wrong.
