1926 Schebler Dealer Brochure

With many thanks to our New Zealand associate "Tommo",

I would like to submit for discussion a Schebler dealer's brochure dated May 1st, 1926.
It is noteable not only in light of the general rarity of Schebler literature, but also for the broad applications listed; It may provide a Rosetta Stone to tie together the fragments of literature from many different marques.

The first installment includes the cover and historical introduction; motorcycle models shall follow in additional posts.
Hopefully the thumbnails below will save to your favorite photoeditor for convenient printing.
The limited file size compromised quality, so hopefully better resolved copies can eventually be snailmailed to the Library.
No other uploading options are apparent to me, so please advise me if there are any!

Thanks for posting the Schebler info Cotten! I took a little break from the Christmas chaos and it was very enjoyable to sit and read such literature. It's invaluable info when it come to carb identification! I found the zoom application on your thumbnails made it plenty clear for viewing. Merry Christmas!

On page 9 Tommo notes adapters to fit Scheblers on to English motorcycles, and even cars.
He raises the question as to whether these were Mr. Niven's creations, or imported.

In review,

The Cleveland's Model AL on page four comes as a shock to me, as I thought that if I focused solely upon American marques, I would never have to deal with such a thing.

One of the more mysterious items, (to me anyway), is the 'vertical' De Luxe, for which there is no illustration on page six. I do not know if I have encountered them or not!

Adaptibility is stressed at several places.
And embracing all cars, trucks, boats, cycles, tractors, stationary, and fire engine applications would undoubtedly require some 'universal' carb models.
Tommo suggests that the DLX 7 is probably such unit.

I just dub all mystery carbs to be "export" models!

Schebler Catalog

I recognized the cartoon on the last page posted as a "Abe Martin" cartoon by Frank Hubbard of Brown County, Indiana. Schebler as other advertisers, enlisted the humorist to gain attention to their products. The following is from one of the many Google search results. The Wheeler-Schebler factory building in Indianapolis is still standing at the intersection of Barth and Sanders Streets in the "Fountain Square" area. I believe that the W-S factory building eventually became the Linkert carburetor factory.

Throughout the early 20th century, Frank McKinney "Kin" Hubbard (1868-1930) was one of the most beloved figures of American popular culture. For nearly three decades, Hubbard's daily cartoon, "Abe Martin," ran in the Indianapolis News, and over 300 daily newspapers across the United States. Among Hubbard's friends and admirers were such luminaries as humorist Will Rogers, novelist Meredith Nicholson, and poet James Whitcomb Riley.
