  • Excelsior crank pin differences, flywheel assembled width, cam covers, valve spring

    Good evening,
I have been working on an 1920 Excelsior engine from parts for years some of you have helped with when I was a member 20 years ago. I have more time on my hands now and would love to complete it.
I have questions on some parts.

I need a cam cover and I see some with one hole for cam stud bolts and some with three holes. Besides that, do they interchange? Because I would take what I could get and does not need to be perfect.

I need a crank pin for the connecting rods and I am wondering if it is supposed to have oil holes because the flywheel has a hole? I would take one not perfect since this would not be run much. I have half a frame and tank and wheels and plan to build a fake racer or just display the engine.

How wide should an assembled crank be measured across the flywheels at the crank pin if I need to make one.

Does the connecting rod have shims between the flywheel? I do not see a part number but saw pictures of parts the look like that.

How thick is the bushing flange on the right side? I need to make a bushing it is missing.

What is the length and wire diameter of the exhaust springs? I have one that came with the parts and seems long and would compress a lot to install and seems like a lot of load. It is almost 3" long.

Please let me know what you know or if you have a crank pin or cam cover.
    Thank you,

    Good evening,
I am adding photos showing an adapter someone added to the cylinder to adapt big valve intake. the inlet was machined and looked like they cut off the original so I though I was in for a lot of work. I have been reluctant for years to attempt the removal but when heating it to melt the braze I notice a difference in color between the adapter and a smaller diameter at the inlet so I stopped and measured to believe the original thread may be there and turned out to be correct. I had to ad a reducer to the inlet because it was machined bigger.
