The "gunna" bike

Health and age are starting to take their toll and when a fellow kiwi contacted me to see if I would sell my 20 series Big X I said no but that I had the makings of a 19 Series that he may be interested in.
This was a bike that one day I was gunna restore but as age and health catches up on you. you realize that it isn't gunna happen and you will just end up like a lot of other gunnas that never get it done, so it was time to move it on.
The chap that enquired wanted a Series 20 only and looked at the pile of bits and walked away but as it was now all in one place I thought it best to assemble what I had collected over many years so that prospective buyers could see what they were buying.
The attached photos show what the bike looks like now and the only thing not shown is the gearbox.
It is an original, if you like, barn find condition bike and I really wondered if I should sell it but common sense stepped in and it has been sold.
Reason for the post, I just thought it may be of interest to some of the fellow antique motorcyclists on this forum.

Tommo, it's great to hear from you. That "X" is a beauty, the person who owns it now is fortunate. i have a friend here in town who is 69, his Dad passed around 15 years ago, John still has his
Dad's partially finished "gunna" bike. From time to time, i wonder briefly what i may pass on that is unfinished... Again, good to hear from you and thanks for sharing.

I can relate Tommo, looking at a pile of stuff that I am "gunna" get rid of since I am not "gunna" get to any of it!

Eric and others I apologise for being off the radar for so long but my health issues have held centre stage for quite some time and it's only now that I am starting to feel better and be able to relate to other things like vintage motorcycling.
The bike is sold to a kiwi so it will stay here in N.Z.
Eric I don't think the price is any secret and it sold for $28.000.oo NZD.

I'm glad you did well with it, Peter and I'm sure it got a good home. You have contributed a lot of knowledge, and encouragement to many of us neophytes and I'm glad you put up with my nonsense I hope it was a New Zealander that got it because I know a lot of Excelsiors were sold there, and there is a very healthy enthusiasm for Brand X in N.Z. to this day.
