    Does anyone know what this front brake hand lever is for?

    Trying to figure out what the left brake lever is. The center lever is the 1928-40 HD lever and the chromed one on the right is an Indian reproduction. Thanks

    Those levers were used by several companies. Both left and right side. Neither H-D or Indian made them.

        Thanks for the information. I have a friend who has several Excelsior projects maybe he would trade for an Indian lever.

          Excelsior/Henderson brake handles are different than the handles pictured above. The attached picture is from a '08-'15 Excelsior parts book and that brake handle could have been used on earlier Excelsiors intended for export. Regardless, Schwinn made that handle until 1931 and used it on the Super X, and KJ. I personally believe Excelsior was the originator of that style brake handle, and Indian, and Harley-Davidson copied the Excelsior handle with minor changes. You can see the perch, handle, and strap are all unique to Excelsior.
