Does anyone know what type of paint or what coating was used on a 1956 panhead frame

Panhead frames were parkerized, then painted black.

Nitrocellulose lacquer, oil based enamel, or....?

There may well be 'Fifty Shades' of "black".

Same paint as used on oil tank, tool box, primary chaincase, and other 'black-painted' parts.

Actually H-D listed Frame Black as a separate color.
