1911 Shaw rebuild

I am helping with a rebuild on a 1911 Shaw. making new main bushings, the first thing I thought was odd was old bushings had no shoulder, or head just straight bushing is this correct? another thing the bushing on the pinion side was .950 over all length and was sticking about .06 in to the fly wheel side and about the same to the outside ? sprocket side was flush to the case on flywheel side but about .100 short of outside . I am thinking someone in the last 103 years has done a bad bushing job. any help thanks Bill
