    tank transfers

    could anyone tell me location for gas tank decals on 37 ul.paint supposed to be done this weekend.I have a set that i got with the bike few years ago and a set from old dude.first set way narrower than new set. not sure about location of pinstripes on tanks also and still confused about covering transfers. to clear or not to clear. thanks T-bone

    Originals were not cleared. But then again they used single stage paint too.

      hello chris the sheet metal on this bike is single stage and you can clear over it. you have to apply enough to sand and buff. im not a painter but the fella that is doing the job just did my 50fl ppg enamel looks like original. paint. ppg concept. adios T-bone

                  thanks alot. flthead other side of tanks would be great i think i know locations on fenders but pictures of original layout takes all the doubt out of it thanks again T-bone.

                          Anyone else notice the differences in the black outlines on the decals between Chris' black and white vintage photo and the original paint tank posted by flthead? Both are 37 so i must agree with Eric... interesting.

                              It is my experience from looking at photos and examples of original paint bikes that, Most 1936/1937 Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads VLs and Us had the decal as shown in the factory photo that Chris posted.
