Black carburator

On my '61 Duo-Glide was missed (AMCA-Judging) the black paint on the Linkert. Is this correct? Most of the Linkert, that I saw, were unpainted. What is the reason of that? Are the unpainted Linkert spareparts, a uncorrect restauration or what?

Yes, carburetors were painted black. Usually, by now, most carburetors have been cleaned and the paint is gone. Don't forget that all other outside parts on the carburetor were cadmium plated.

Chris refers to post-war carbs, of course.

I observe many OHV choke cams that are dull nickel on carbs as late as '65.

Beware that cadmium will age differently on different metals, and that NOS pieces illustrate that consistancy within a production batch can vary widely!
