inner primary and other parts ?

what is the recommendation for close to original inner primary and oil tank and other painted parts on my 50 pan. Would a lower grade of powdercoating be acceptable for amca judging.

Section VI article 2 of the Handbook of Judging states;
"Any type of paint may be used if the final appearance simulates the original finish." Does your powder coating look like original painted parts?

Jim Long in Iowa, a long-time and respected frame restorer recommended that if you want to go powdercoat on your frame, go with 85% gloss as a good simulation of the original finish. He did this with my frame and I received no deductions in Eustis. I used a local powdercoater for my handlebars, primary, oil bag and forks, and received no deductions on those parts either. I'm not absolutely sure if the 85% gloss holds true for these other parts but I suspect it does. I would welcome comments on differences between the frame and some of these other ""black" surfaces.

Yes i would like to know the percentage of gloss for those parts also as I want to send it to the powder coater in a few weeks. that is after I make sure there are no extra imperfections. I'm buying a buffer to make sure the finish is proper for each item before it goes to the coater.

I've heard 80 % on the frame now 85% which is better the frame on mine looks like it was painter a burgandy color already so I cant judge the gloss on an original

If you would look at factory photos you will see that the original production bikes were far from being flawless.
If you are so concerned about being perfect and correct why not paint your parts as they originally come from the MoCo? Powder coating was not original.

Gotta agree with Chris, nothin looks like black enamel quite like black enamel. Any one should be able to duplicate the factory finish on these parts themselves for a fraction of the cost of powdercoat. Leaves more money for an original set of tank emblems or something else.

these things take time

I too wouldn't powered coat any parts on a M/C I wanted to appear original including the frame. The process of restoring to original condition is alot of patience and homework. I always used a quality Storebought spray can paint for those small parts mentioned and the look is just right. Powdercoating has too smooth of a look that isn't what they looked like new. There wasn't a deep shine on those parts. It's all personal preference for sure, but looking different is just that. Keep riding them, Merlin in Pa.

I would recommend a single stage urethane paint , have used it and looks like enamel but little more durable. http://www.akzonobelcarrefinishes.ne...=65395&pid=452
