  • Painting inside of fenders

My painter had many issue trying to paint the inside of my FLH fenders. Said he could not get a good finish due to overspray bouncing off one side and coating the other leaving a bad finish.
I may try myself next set. Is there a secret to inside of tight spaces. I assumed a smaller gun but he said he tried that.

I guess you've never seen the inside of new OEM fenders.

        Undercoating worked for me.

I didn't have trouble shooting single stage inside my FXR fenders, the rear is very valenced like an FLH. I used a jamb gun with lower than usual pressure. The narrow fan seemed to keep overspray under control.

            Robbie,
Funny you say that as the three previous coats of paint on the inside were flaking.
            Joe,
I figured a lower fan size and maybe lower air velocity would help.
            Cotten,
His overspray made it look like undercoating.

I almost decided to paint the inside with a spray can.
Our end solution was to have the crap he attempted glass beaded off again and had the whole fender (both) powder coated.
He then sanded the outside only and shot again with base/clear.
So I have beautiful powder coating on the inside and base/clear on the outside.

Has ended up being an expensive paint job.

They had big "sucking" fans in the hoods of those booths too!

I do what Joe does. I keep the pressure down, have a pedestal fan blowing overspray away and gob it on. I want paint protection, not perfection on the inside of a fender.
