    Hi,
Indian Police Silver is a rare color. I have hundreds of photos of Indians, and though difficult to tell due to black-white photography, none appear to be Silver. As far as I know Police Silver first appears in 1946 literature. Color chips of available colors used with post-WWII Indians don't include Police Silver. Due to the scarcity of known original examples, almost any medium gray paint would likely be so similar to true Police Silver, that no one could say it wasn't. The Silver vs Gray issue is interesting as no Springfield Indians ran paint with a metallic component. The introduction of metallic colors (called polychromatic back in the day) didn't occur until the Enfield Indian era. The Enfield Indians had metallic red, blue and green. Some Papooses also came in metallic colors. These were all imported machines, so the Police Silver used on the earlier Springfield Indians was likely a metallic-free Gray.
