  • Skyway blue paint code

Can anyone help me out with a modern paint code for Skyway blue in a single stage paint with hardner for my '47 WL. I know John Pierce has this but at $363 for a quart, I'm looking into some other options. I still may HAVE to go that route, but hate to spend that much on a WL. If it was a Knuckle, I could justify that much on paint a little easier. Thanks for any help.

I made a reply under Knuckleheads if you care to go that route.

I have a few cans of original Harley skyway blue paint and I used that to match the paint I used on my 41UL. I poured a bit of the paint on to a paper plate and had the body shop match the paint. I know I still have the plate and there is probably enough that could cut it in 2 pieces and mail you guys a sample if that would help you out. Im not sure if the paint can from the body shop has any info on it but I can give you that also.

Here is what the paint I have looks like…. kinda, it looks a little more purple in this pic than it actually is. I will take another pic to see if the color shows more accurately. If it does I will post it

If you want me to mail you a sample of the paint I will, Just PM me you mailing address. I have enough on the plate to send both of you a sample.

This picture is more true to color than the other.

This is where I got my sample from.

All the H-D paint names and part numbers are in Palmer's books. There are no known paint codes. Besides paint codes that old won't work with modern paints. I found that out trying to use a 1941 Dupont paint code for a Ford.

The paint company that mixed the paint would have the "recipe", Matt. I did as you did to get the correct Cruiser Green match for my '41 EL, using single-stage enamel. The recipe or formula was actually on the label of the paint can which I got back from the painter.

The recipe could vary from one paint manufacturer to another so, as they say, buyer beware.

Matt, I am doing a '47 UL and was wondering if you can send me the info that you provided above. I want to paint it skyway blue but it won't be a judged machine and don't need to spend a lot for an exact match. Hope mine will turn out as nice as yours!

                    Skyway Blue

                    Ok,
I know, I am late, but this Indian guy is picking up a big fat flatty and needs the formulation for 'Skyway Blue'. Did anyone save after doing their project?
                    Thanks
