1932 vl Paint

I need some help.. I am thinking of painting my 32 VL vermillion and cream with gold stripping ... I was wondering how correct these colors would be for this year and what color is vermillion what can I match this to as well as the cream. I am planning on going with the two tone fenders as well cream for the center red on the outsides any help would be appreciated.. I have been searching for months for photos and local shows.. yes thats a good start now lets say i went vermillion and black would frame and primary covers and the main part of the bike be vermillion then the center scroll be black and did they two tone the fenders as an option i guess

We don't know the answers to a lot of these questions because most of the 1932 bikes were in the standard paint schemes and almost no original paint bikes survive in optional schemes. I've made extrapolations in my VL book from the paint chart posted by Chris Haynes to guess which parts would be which colour and where the striping goes. The Vermilion was an old striping colour, and apparently had a new life as the Mandarin Red of the 1933 scheme used in the Harley brochure. Although I believe the filled mudguard centre panel was only used in the 1933 red/black scheme there must be a case for it being available as an option. If you take the Vermilion and Cream from the above chart then at least you know they were available in 1932. I don't know what you'd use for striping. If this is to be an AMCA judged bikes, then the judges are starting to look for evidence that a bike was actually built in this scheme, so take advice from them in the judging section of this forum.

I'm interested in this paint scheme too. Upon cleaning the gunk off my 1932 V frame and under the black paint that someone had reprinted the frame are patches of red paint. Vermillion I'm assuming. I took the frame to an auto repair center and asked them to see if they could match the paint. They had a laser gun from PPG but needed a bigger sample of paint, plus the gun need to lay flat on the surface to get a reading. I'm still not stripping the frame until I run out of options. Lippy

my 1932 vl frame had a redish paint as well.. I found what I believe to be close I used the codes in Slocombes book . I was not really impressed with the shade so I am leaning toward a maroon and cream two tone fenders and the older tank paint scheme. I see John Pierce has the maroon and cream listed under optional colors for 1932. I am leaning toward the gold and vermillion pin stripe. I read some place that you could get previouse year colors any input would be appreciated.
