Hi, hopefully someone can advise me whether a light gray primer or undercoat was used back in the 1930's?
I have an unrestored 1931 to 1934 vl toolbox that shows a light gray primer under the black. There is evidence of the patent decal on top ( the stain where it has embedded into the paint ), so it has been there a while. There is gray under that also.
I have only seen the red primer on original paint harleys , never gray.
Might someone be able to advise?
Many thanks,
