  • 1928 HD JD

I am restoring a 1928 HD JD, and I am now stripping the bike down to start the painwork. My problem is that I don't know what part should be what colour. I am painting my bike green (olive ??). The gas tanks, toolbox, frame, front fork and fenders should be green, but what about the handlebar, hubs, sprockets, wheel rims, headlight brackets, transmission, the parts connecting the gear shifing leveler to the transmission, luggage carrier, etc.

This link shows pictures of my bike:

I am looking foreward to you reply.

"what about the handlebar, hubs, sprockets, wheel rims, headlight brackets, transmission, the parts connecting the gear shifing leveler to the transmission, luggage carrier, etc"

    Handlebars - OD Green
    Hubs - Black
    Rockers - Black
    Spocket - Black or Parkerized
    Rims - OD Green
    Headlamp Brackets - OD Green
Tranny Case - Natural (Some were OD Green but I think Military)
    Tranny Kicker Cover - Black (' ')
Luggage Carrier - OD Green (Some were also black for other colour schemes)
    Gear Lever - Nickel Plated
Gear Lever Linkage - Nickel Plate I believe

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Peter

      Thanks!

Thanks a lot. This helps a lot. Yesterday I bought a 1920 Excelsior, so my HD paint project have to wait for some time but I hope I will be able to repaint my bike soon.
