There should be a main nozzle above the spring, John,
And it probably looks something like the short one in my #33 pic.
Sometimes, you gotta pull them (the bombsight might require creativity),

I am surprised by a 12° disc, and wonder if it came with the Euro throttleshaft. (They are quality, but I remove the O-ring at the bottom.)
Inspection would be for daylight around the disc when completely closed, and with the idle bleed plug on the side removed, observe if the closed disc falls in the middle of the slot.

PS: You might want to swipe the manifold flange across a flat abrasive for inspection.

Cotten let me know if this is what you'er looking for or if I missed something. These carbs are new to me.Originally posted by T. Cotten View Post
It would also be great to know if there was a spigot seal,
And the degree stamping upon the throttle disc (if original) would be delightful.
(The inspection stampings on the bottom the flange are rare, except on Scheblers!)
Thanks!

I appreciate the pics, John!
It confirms the needles are the same as the M53 series;
The main nozzle is captured with a plug (like Type A Scheblers), and I'm curious if it differs from the M53 series which seem to vary greatly!:

Can you see an opening at the bottom of the bore, directly behind the venturi?
(Here's an M53A-1 with the venturi removed; I doubt you will see one, but I'm curious how the M53 series evolved..)

PS: If you ever take it apart, I could use pics of the nozzle and needle tips, even though I have never held one in my hands, and don't ever expect to.. .. Thanks.

I had something like a 249 come through the shop once, Jruff!
Come to think of it, it probably is your worst.

I think the Indian is the worst out of 25 maybe more I'm really not sure. Don't think I'll get to them all I spent too much time on other peoples bikes when I should have been doing my own. I'm working on telling people NO! We'll see how good that works out. I'm building the Indian in my livingroom because the two shops have other people crap in themOriginally posted by T. Back to JRuff's original toss-up, the point I should have expressed is that you fix your worst first lest you may never get to it!

I'm only a student of carbs, Folks...
And I'm used to it, but forensics get real difficult when everythings' been stripped for the swap meet.

OK, so two votes for the Indian Vertical and two for the Norton SS. This make me the tie breaker. Soooooooooo because I must have more time then sense, I'm going to do both. No time No space and no sense. So lets get started, tomorrow I will start a new topic and so we have more fun I'm going to try to do everything inhouse. The Indian started today the S.S. will start a day or two later.

I was the one who 'liked' your uncles' pics on the D-day thread, Thanks to all vets, dead or alive.
