1916 HD model J Electric

I've just picked up this 1916 J Harley from Los Angeles via Felixstowe docks in the UK. It was all packaged in a matching side-car.
I will need help with some parts and there are plenty of duplicate and incorrect parts that I'll put up for trade later.
Next is to get it up on the bench and sort out what is missing.

Also, in the bottom of the pile I found a set of white rubber mats, hand grips and foot pads. I know the tires were white but did Harley supply any bikes with white rubber? There was an invoice to a previous owner dated 1984 in there, a Brian Markley of Torrence, Ca. I wonder if he's still riding.

The older numbering system is different from the newer; the pictures are very helpful.

Ian, great buy. I remember that 1916 pile when it was for sale, and I thought it was a very good deal. I have a 1916 as well, and I'm proudly prejudiced enough to say the '16 is my favorite road going Harley-Davidson.

Thanks Eric, now I know who to contact when I want all those close up detail shots!
I've never seen a 16J on the road and understand they are quite rare although the factory records show over 5,000 were made.
Should be very rideable though.

It is interesting to note that H-D made more 1916 Js than 1915 Js; yet the survival rate for '15s is far better than the '16. You have probably seen many of these pictures, but it's always nice to see them again.
