Can some one tell me were in Mr. Palmer's book he idenifies the differences between tranny support plates. I know I've read it before but I looked for three hours last night to no avail. Bob L

There is a fourth that I am aware of. To the eye it looks like the others with the exception of one of the front bolt holes which did not match up with the knuckle seatpost mount. I welded that one up and drilled another hole to line up that mount hole properly. However when I tried to mount the transmission I found that the lugs on the bottom would not fit into the center slots, the ones that keep the transmission straight when it is moved back and forth for chain tensioning, meaning it was for a fixed-mount tranny for an electric start shovel.
Darn it - well anyway I now have an electric-start tranny plate for the earlier seatpost mounts.
Moral of the story - try fitting the trans case to the plate before proceeding further.

the best thing to do now is take it to the machine shop and finish the conversion----i did the same thing once. i thin about .10 off each side will do it but not sure nowComment

Let me go further with my quest. Yesterday I was Parkerizing and I was about to do three tranny support plates when I suddenly realized that just about every hole on these plates was butcher at one time(Drilled out). Never caught it when I was blasting them. Two are ridged and one 58-64. The 58 has the wider hole pattern on the front. The 58 has the two front bolt holes threaded for 3/8. Now the two ridged plates are also different from each other. One is the early one where it’s welded front and rear and riveted in the center where the later one is welded in three spots going down each side. Were these plates also threaded in the front or just drilled? Would also like to know what years the riveted one covers. It will take me an hour to weld up the holes and redrill but without the info above I’m dead in the ground. BobComment
