The only ones I have found so far are from Steve Slocombe at VL Heaven.
He wrote a restoration guide and it has a chapter on trans. rebuilds and a second booklet on the 3 speed with reverse. I have just received these and have not gotten that far yet but from glancing through the book it looks complete. I have a 1934 VLD and so far have only started to learn about it.

Dear Louie, my VL restoration book has the only description of rebuilding the 3-speed transmission that I know of. Likewise my new book on the reverse and VL four speed gearboxes. I'll be bringing both to Oley.
All parts of the VL transmission are available, and it is satisfying to rebuild this long-lived and rugged gearbox. New mainshafts, countershafts and slider gears are available, and I've just made a batch of the countershaft gears (fits 1915-36 big twins). I'll be bringing a rebuilt gearbox to Oley spot 28 with all these new parts, plus new oil seals, bearings, gaskets etc for interest and inspection.
The clutch parts are also getting hard to find in good condition, so I've made the steel toothed clutch plates, plus the lined plates with a bonded-on lining and about 50% more surface area.

Thanks Steve, you emailed me a list of parts the other day, the tranny don't look to bad. Will need the normal bearings, bushings, and seals. I'll be getting with you when I get a complete list.Louie

Dear All, nice to talk to you at Oley, and for those that asked about my new countershaft cluster gear, it is made from American spec SAE 8620 steel and the hardness is 58/62 HRC or 650/740 Vickers. I feel better about the $240 price now that I've found out the Indian ones are $300, and it fits 1915-36 big twins. When the decent main drive gears are used up then someone needs to step up to the plate and make that one, and then we can have every internal part new on rebuilt VL gearboxes.
With the three speed countershaft gears I'm making a few VL reverse ones too (2302-32A), so some interest would be appreciated so that this is not just another vanity project for me.
And talking about vanity projects, I made ten sets of gears and shafts for the 1936 VL four speed gearbox and have two sets left. It fits 1925-36 so you JDH racer guys might be interested, as well as those with 36VLD or VLH bikes, or indeed any year VL.
