Thanks for the help with the clutch . Will work on that this weekend….
Next up is the transmission . Also taken apart and cleaned in the past winter then work got in the way . All cleaned, new bearings and gears look good . Anything else to keep in mind ? Any tips ?
I am adding an oil drain plug to drain the oil over time.
90 weight oil ? How much ? I don’t recall a gasket between the two halves ? Why was there originall ? Perhaps use permatex or yamabond ?

Dan, Correct, no gasket, use Yamabond, or good RTV. Transmission is straight forward, only one way to assemble it! Before final assembly, be sure the indexing gate and lock on the top are correct. Sometimes the gate and lock wear and in neutral, the dogs on the sides of the slider gear will knock against either 1st or 3rd. If so, adjust the tang on the lock so it clears when locked in neutral. If you're going to use oil rather than the heavy gear grease originally recommended, you will need an access hole on the side to check the level. We determined that 7 oz of oil was adequate, so just enough to come up to the bottom of the main shaft when the bike is standing straight on both wheels. I put one on the right side between the main shaft and countershaft. 90 W is fine if you have good sealed bearings. Be sure it is compatible with bronze bushings. I actually use Penrite Semifluid gear grease, available from Restoration Supply in California. Be careful where you put the drain plug. The lowest spot will require removing the muffler and lower transmission plate stud. I had to use an Allen head plug, with a magnet.
