Lots of oil in the cylinders, occasionally starts running on one cylinder, last time on one cylinder, so much carbon around the spark plug hole I figured it was time to tear down have a look see. I put a new head gasket on about 17 years ago, that is the only motor work I believe has ever been done. I am the third owner, moto never apart as far as I can tell. I will post some of these pitures again as I have a few questions...Pics are the front cylinder

Leversole,
Your combustion chamber, which the cylinder bore and piston assembly is a direct part of, definitely shows signs of wear as it should at its age.
Proper measurements and calculations should be taken throughout the top end. This includes rocker arms, rocker supports, valve's, guides, seat dimensions, cylinder bore X&Y through stroke travel, etc...

Exhaust valve not pretty...obviously not seating...valve has a lot of free play within the guide...the intake was much better, no shake at all, nice and smooth! I guess a lot of the oil was coming down the worn exhaust guide...

Leversole,
There are clear signs of the exhaust valve guide allowing oil to be drawn into the port.
I highly suggest using modern valves, guides and seals when you rebuild them. Combined with a proper cylinder bore for oversized pistons and new gaskets you'll have a clean combustion chamber during operation.
