    45 transmission problem

I have a 1942 Harley 45 that will not shift into second gear. First and third work fine. Any ideas?

Before pulling the transmission try adjusting shift linkage. Sometimes the least little bit out can keep it from going or staying in gear.

45" 2nd is the one that is tricky for many to setup properly.

Thanks for your response. I’ll try adjusting the shift linkage to see if that helps.

If the pivot bolt at the gas tank holding the shifter gets loose, and they do, all sorts of problems arise. Checking your linkage first is good advice.
