  • JD timing mark

While i had this engine apart, i thought i would put in a timing mark on the crank.
Turned down a top engine mount bolt, with a hole in it. Made a transfer punch to go through the hand oil pump line. Set the crank at 7/16" BTD and tapped the transfer pump. Took the crank out of the cases and drilled a dimple in the flywheel. I will make a pin to locate the dimple through the oil line fitting when the motor is assembled and in the frame. 20230922_090149.jpg 20230922_084411.jpg 20230922_084419.jpg

      Thanks Mark.
British bikes have used this system for years. I just adapted it to unmarked flywheels.
I will eventually thread the head bolt adapter to get a more accurate setting, and probably make a dedicated tool for the oil nipple hole, if i can be bothered.
