Panhead covers

I know this should be in the 'Panhead' category but there are a lot of new post there today, and I didn't want to interfere with their inquiries.

My question: Are there distinguishing characteristics that identify genuine early steel H-D panhead covers?

I have a bunch of them, and they all look identical to me. This is for a 1948FL motor. General consensus says they should be chrome plated steel in '48. . . . ? Thanks

I determined that the chromiest set I have are correct

All the covers that I have look the same, except for the material that they are made of. And they are all OEM. So, as for distinguishing marks? I say No. Also, Palmer's new book backs up your consensus that the '48 only were chrome plated steel.
