  • Truett & Osborn Crankshaft assembly

    Hi All,
    Happy New Year!
Thoughts on the quality and value of purchasing a set of these please...
I am debating installing a set of these in my 58 FL... Not looking to stroke the old panhead... Looking for a smooth running engine...

    Thanks in advance all...

What's wrong with what you have?

It would run smoother as an EL...

Don't know yet... I will see once the motor is apart... Waiting for a shop to take the engine... Just researching my options... Thanks...

Things that would make me replace the OEM wheels:
        1. bad (egged, rust, keyway damage) tapers
        2. balance holes from prior (post-sale) job outside the wheels (very common)
        3. holes too close to the crankpin

If I were replacing the wheels I would certainly increase the stroke.

I really liked setting up T&Os, Steve!

          They almost trued themselves.

          Don't look now, Kitabel,..
          But tapers can be corrected!

A greater problem with tapers were when they were pulled up so tight so many times that the wheels pinched the rods, and slopped between the mains.
So I had JIMS custom-cut me longer crankpins; Still have plenty in stock if anybody needs one..

Thanks Cotten! We will see... really like the idea of a balanced assembly... I had a bad experience with a set of S&S Wheels so I am leery of using them again... Just want a dependable, stock, smooth running Pan that I can pamper...
I want this to be the last time I have to open this engine again...

I've seen 58 FL's but the person who answered you said to leave it an EL. O.K? I like T and O units. For the money their a spot on bargain and work well..
