  • low compression /short piston 350cc single options

I'm looking for a little help/advice for my 1929 French bike. Due to difficulty getting the right piston for my bike, the guy building my bike ended up putting a Harley ( 45?) Piston in my 29 Terrot 350cc bike, which was ok for cylinder diameter but i believe close to 1/8 " short which I imagine woud result in decreased compression. How much, I don't know, but i bet a lot. I got it to a top speed of 36 recently and I'm guessing, the low compression might be the cause.

What should I consider doing? Not being real savy about all this yet, I was wondering if the cylinder base could be shaved down to increase the compression. What are the problems /concerns with this? This engine is considered /called a lateral or side valve engine with a head that is an attached or integral part of the cylinder jug. Im guessing the gasket is already quite thin.

As an aside, I've recently relocated to North Myrtle Beach SC. I could use a good machine shop and motorcycle shop for my 29 Terrot and my 71 Triumph Bonneville, so any suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks for the help!!

Use a piston for a Harley-Davidson K-Model. It is the same diameter as a 45 piston and same oversizes but has a higher crown (larger distance from pin centerline to top of crown).

THANKS! Great information. In a hundred years I wouldn't have known that. I really appreciate your help! Now, if i could only find the original pieces that fell off onto the trailer and onto 95 yesterday. Ugh. Regardless, awesome help. Off to find a piston and a mechanic now.
