  • Here is one for Cotton/carb paint

What is your current recommendation for Linkert black carb paint? I am working on a 50 FL, the carb still has over 90% original flat black paint on it. I am thinking about leaving it as is (bike will be semi restored/survivor rider) but I rather doubt the paint will last with todays gas. I still have a quart of PPG Durathane that I could add flattening agent to. This is impossible to get anymore (cyanide) but extremely tough, MEK, laquer thinner, etc. have no effect at all on it.
I was also wondering if an epoxy primer of some sort could be used to replace Glyptal in the engine cases, Your thoughts?
Anyone else please feel free to chime in also. Thanks, Cam

    Cam!

Your Durathane sounds ideal, but go easy on the flattening agent.

From what L&L literature that I am privy to, the original finish was "lacquer", which probably started out reflective, but did not hold its gloss for long in service.

Scheblers kept their gloss much better.

Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe I should not use any flattening agent. It will probably have a very fine film of gas/scum on it anyhow with todays gas.
