In cleaning up these cases, there were some areas where the original casting finish was damaged, smoothed or deeply scratched. I also had to weld an area near one mount. As a result, the 'sand cast' finish had to be replicated/restored in these areas.
Here is a technique for restoring the 'sand cast' finish.
Take a piece of heavy grit (36 grit in this case) sand paper. Place sand down over the area to be restored. Then tap with a hammer while moving the paper around to expose new, sharp sand to the area to be blended. Only takes a couple of minutes.
Here you can see an area mostly completed. You can see that it was a rectangular area about 1/2" x 1/4" that would have stood out like a sore thumb on the case.

After the blending, polish with Scotchbrite, a bit of 0000 Steel wool and paste metal polish of your choice and it will be virtually invisible.
