Help ID'ing a Cam

Morning All,
This weekend, I picked up a 5-gal bucket full of cam chest gears, (8) 'H' cams and misc parts. I found one cam with "61" stamped on the front gear face (no identifying marks on the lob - see photos). I assume a stock cam for a 61" motor (since the duration is shorter than the 'H' cam); however, wanted to ask if anyone has any intel on this "61" cam that they can share?

The 61 cam is indeed for ELs but was also used until '56 on the FLE and was a component of the "Traffic Combination" package as used in many Police, Commercial, or any other unit where low speed tractability was desired.

Next question: Does anyone know of shop they can recommend that re-conditions cams (a club member?)? I have this and the H cams I would like to get checked and/or reconditioned.

I think your cam is 1952 and down EL Pan. The later 61 cams are solid and not hollow. Not exactly sure of the split though.

Unless you are interested in using it yourself I am not sure it is worth the effort to recondition.

Thanks for the additional info Jerry. That's interesting regarding the split. The other H cams I picked up are mostly hollow with exception to a couple solid ones. I'll have to research around those years and see what can dig up.

I had nothing planned for the cam. But I did wonder what is an average/estimated cost to recondition (if anyone has had this previous performed)? If reconditioning is 50% or more of the cost of a new cam, then I agree with you. Though it is nice having 'ready-to-go' parts sitting on the shelf when I or friend needs something!
