I am looking to repaint the cylinders on my "76" FLH. Would anyone be aware of whether the factory used flat or gloss black back then? Additionaly ; did they use a primer?

To my knowledge the factory used a satin finish black on the cylinders. There was no formal primer under the black, however the castings may have been phospate coated to resist corrosion during manufacturing. The hi-temp cylinder paints on the market today do a great job of duplicating the "factory finish".
